Barranco de la Hoz del Río Gallo

It is a place where all the environmental values that exist in the Molina Region are represented. We are going to highlight the following:

Landscape value: The Triassic materials of the Buntsandstein Germanic facies offer attractive erosive forms, among which the El Uso and La Tinaja torms stand out, together with warm tones that accentuate their unevenness. The wide botanical variety completes a chromatic diversity that evolves throughout the seasons, offering a natural environment of great beauty.

Scientific relevance: On its cliffs we find stratigraphic outcrops of exceptional quality due to the clarity with which their features can be appreciated and the ease of study they offer. For this reason, the Hoz del Gallo Conglomerate Formation, described here, is the reference type section for the entire Iberian Mountain Range.

Botanical and faunal wealth: By being arranged in an approximately east-west direction, different microclimatic conditions are fostered on its two margins, which, together with the abundance of water, expands the number of species that find their habitat on its steep slopes, some such as the Delphinium fissum subsp. Sordidum represent one of the last populations of a relict botanical species, in serious danger of extinction.

How to get: This is where the georoute nº5 from the Alto Tajo Natural Park to get there from Molina de Aragón or from Corduent, take the GU-958 regional road that runs through the ravine towards the town of Carved Caves.

Observations: This place is part of the Alto Tajo Natural Park and is protected by its environmental protection and conservation regulations.
