Each town in the Comarca de Molina-Alto Tajo Geopark has its patron saint festivals and traditions that bring together inhabitants and former neighbors when, during the summer season, the towns of this region recover their old heartbeat and the pennants cover the sky of their squares, that exude an atmosphere of brass band and festival. The origin of many of these celebrations is pre-Roman, when the Celtiberians dominated these lands and made requests to their gods to provide them with a good harvest. After Christianization, these rites were transformed into festive celebrations dedicated to certain saints, but always coinciding with an important date in the agricultural calendar such as sowing or harvesting. However, with the exodus of the rural population, most of the dates on which these patron saint festivities were celebrated have been moved to the months of July and August, making it possible for a greater number of people to attend.
The most notable festivities, declared of Regional Tourist Interest, the Parade of the Military Brotherhood of Carmen, in Molina de Aragón, on July 16; declared a Site of Cultural Interest by UNESCO, the Gancheros Festival, the last weekend of August. In addition, there are several festivals of Provincial Tourist Interest in this region such as the Dances and Praise to the Virgin of the Hoz, which is celebrated in the place known by the same name, in the municipality of Corduente, the following Sunday after Pentecost; the Soldiers of Codes, on August 16; the Soldadesca of Hinojosa, the first Sunday in June; the Pilgrimage of the Virgin of Montesinos, in Cobeta, on the third Saturday of May; the Canticos a San Timoteo, flag dance and currutaje, in Alcoroches, on August 22; and Saint Bartholomew, in Czechia, on August 24. Carnival, the pagan festival par excellence, since it is outside any religious rite, also contains a great tradition in the towns of the Geopark. During this festival, the residents of each town used to emulate animals and other creatures of different kinds. Among all the carnivals, Los Diablos de Luzón stands out, without a doubt, a festival that is also declared of Provincial Tourist Interest.
