Celtiberia Route

The importance of Celtiberia in the territory was hidden for years, due to the little impact of later times, but research has revealed the significance of this civilization in the Geopark landscape.
Due to their importance and degree of conservation, several of the sites are cataloged as Assets of Cultural Interest (BIC), some of them can be visited such as El Ceremeño (Herreria), Los Rodiles (Cubillejo de la Sierra), Peña Moñuz (Olmeda de Cobeta) and Castilgriegos (Czech).

THE CELTIBERIANS

They were the pre-Roman peoples who lived south of the Ebro, in the surroundings of the Iberian System, whom the Greco-Latin authors called that because both from an ethnic and linguistic point of view they perceived them as the “Celts of Iberia”.

They soon entered the annals of Roman history for the successive war conflicts they maintained during the years of conquest.
The Celtiberians had a long history that dates back to the beginning of the Iron Age, in the 8th century BC. C., and ended up as an independent cultural entity when it was gradually incorporated into the Roman state, around the change of era.

Through the excavation of numerous sites, the reading of classical texts that talk about them and linguistic studies, we know a lot of information about the places where they lived and the economic resources available, their customs and some practices.
