Arandilla River Valley

It is a valley excavated by the Arandilla River in sandstones of the Buntsandstein facies from the lower Triassic, reference for the entire Iberian Mountains. The quality with which the details of the stratification of these sediments are recorded, together with the ease of study they offer, has led to the definition here of the type section of the Areniscas del Río Arandilla formation.

Also striking is the fact that a small limestone travertine has been developed located on sandstone.

The vertical escarpments of its slopes show the characteristic erosive forms of these materials: Tormos and cliffs in which rock birds nest.

The Hermitage of the Virgin of Montesinos was built in its sheltered area, reflecting the importance that this place had for man since ancient times.

How to get: In it are the last stops of the Georoute #3 of the Alto Tajo Natural Park and is accessed by the regional highway CM-2015 from Corduent.

Observations: Vehicle access is allowed to the Ermita de Montesinos recreational area, but the condition of the track, especially in winter, can present difficulties.
