This is the most notable of the many chasms that we can find in the moors that separate the valleys of the Alto Tajo. These moorlands are the vestige of the wide plains developed at the end of the Neogene in our region and are developed on limestone and dolomitic materials of mainly Cretaceous age. These materials promote the infiltration of rainwater and its dissolution by it generates the typical elements of karst modeling, among which the underground cavities such as this chasm stand out.
The chasm has a depth of 62 meters, in its lower area a small travertine stands out that grows thanks to the precipitation of carbonate caused by an underground spring of water, a small artificial dam facilitates the use of this source, important because in this area there are scarce, especially in the summer.
In the area through which sunlight penetrates slightly, plants adapted to the particular conditions of humidity, temperature and low lighting that this micro-habitat present.
