Dropstone
This block of sandstone rock surrounded by deep marine sediments gives us invaluable information about the paleoenvironmental conditions in which these materials were found more than 400 million years ago.
The presence of large fragments of rock sedimented among fine-grained materials that are interpreted as typical of deep marine environments, far from the coast, is due to the fact that they have been transported to the sea within icebergs that travel through the ocean from the caps. polar. These icebergs tear blocks of rock from the mountains in their glacial phase, and transport them, first descending through the valley and then through the sea when they fragment on the coast, undertaking a long journey by sea. The melting of the ice litters the ocean floor with these rock fragments.
How to get: It is located next to the Checa Interpretive Area, in para nº3 of the Georoute nº8 of the Alto Tajo Natural Park.
Observations: To guarantee the preservation of this important vestige of the past, it has been necessary to build a grille around it to prevent its deterioration, which gives us an idea of its scientific value.
